India's Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCF) has published a quality control order (QCO) for orthophosphoric acid that will make it mandatory for companies manufacturing or importing it to adhere to the national standard IS 798:2020.
The standard outlines the minimum purity requirements and other technical specifications.
Orthophosphoric acid is used largely to clean sheet metal before painting, to prevent corrosion and rust. It is also used in the manufacture of phosphate salts, polyphosphates and detergents.
Indian Standard (IS) 798:2020 outlines the minimum purity requirements and other technical specifications. Companies manufacturing or importing the chemical will require certification to prove conformity and display the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) mark on all packaging.
