QCO NOTIFICATION FOR MANDATORY BIS CERTIFICATION OF "WELDING WIRES, RODS AND ELECTRODES"

In this regard, DPIIT has requested that all industries, Apex Industry/Association (CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM), Sectoral Industry/Association, Regional Industry/Association, respective Administrative Ministries, Concerned R & D Institutions/Organizations provide their comments on the Draft QCOs by December 31st, 2022.

As per this Draft QCO, The Central Government, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, decides that it is necessary or expedient to issue the “Welding Wires, Rods and Electrodes (Quality Control) Order, 2023” in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

How to get BIS certificate?

  1. Documentation process: If you want to obtain BIS certification, you must prepare all necessary documentation before submitting your application.
  2. Application Submission: Once all relevant documents are prepared, the application form and supporting documentation will be submitted to the BIS Portal.
  3. Scrutiny of application: BIS officials will carefully review each and every document and application submitted.
  4. Audit of manufacturing premises: Following scrutiny, BIS will appoint an auditor to audit manufacturing premises. During the inspection of manufacturing facilities, BIS officials will draw a sample and send it to a BIS-approved laboratory for testing.
  5. Sample testing: All samples collected will be tested in a BIS-approved laboratory to ensure that the product meets the requirements of applicable Indian standards.
  6. Grant of BIS Licence: If the product complies with the specified standard, BIS will grant a BIS license to the manufacturer.

The order takes effect six months from the date of notification. But there are several compliance deadlines based on the size of the enterprise: nine months for Small Enterprises and twelve months for Micro Enterprises.
